Creating RS lightweight replica

Hi, I'm looking for some advise on building a Carrera RS replica.
I am not concerned with having an exact replica but more of a look a like. I notice that both the front and rear arches on the 3.0sc match similarily to the carrera rs but the bumpers and front indicators are very different. I have seen carrera rs reproduction bumpers and the ducktail spoiler for sale but never a conversion kit.
Would the 3.0sc be the best 911 to perform the conversion on (as I would presume no welding or extension of the arches would be necessary) or is this model not suitable and would it have to be an early 2.7S ?
I would prefer to start with a 3.0sc as the body is galvanised and they are not as pricey as the early 911.
Any advise and sources for the parts would be very welcome.
Carl

Here's my advice-- "Buy one that's already built."

Having BTDT, I can only say that unless your goal is to have the experience of building it yourself, you will be hours and dollars ahead to find one already done that tickles your fancy and write one big check....

That would be an RS cabriolet. A very rare car.

Yes, by the time you buy all the "conversion" parts, fit them and have them painted, you would have enough to buy an early car with RS or SC flares.

I have nearly finished my backdate. Started with a strait '76. It has the crome trim, opening quarter windows, manual windows and gal body. Spent 1 year gathering bits. Then 1year off the road and will have it back on the road this week. I enjoyed doing the project but it is expensive and time consuming.( It also drove my girlfriend nuts). If you will get as much pleasure from doing the project as having the car it's worth it. If you just want an RS buy it.

If you want a true liteweight replica as opposed to an RS look or RS clone, then you need to sart w/ a bare totally stripped out chassis. Then put back only what is needed by rule or function.

Start w/ something like this

This one came in at ~2000# fully dressed, lead was added to bring it up to class weight 2116. The nice thing about ballast is you can place it where it will do the most good for you.

Yup...I be the only one on the BBS with an RS clone cab....big whoop.

I got the glass pieces from TRE.....already had the duck and the rear bumper piece. NOT A WHOLE lot of cutting involved. The scariest was the rear license plate sheet metal. The TRE front hood is installed w/o any front mods as it is designed to work with the SC style hood latch.

I started with an 83 SC euro cab, 3.6 engine that I did a few years ago. Recently I was able to install the converted varioram heat exchangers to fit and got a nice custom made two into one muffler in there with an integrated cat....so I got rid of the Supertrapps...

Car is being painted today.....hope to have it out by this weekend and apply the custom Carrera side stripes ....which I make.... I went with a modified pin stripe version that I think will be both subtle but staying with the 73 RS style.

Car is white with red pin and Fuch wheels. Takes awhile when the shop is doing a "favor" for past favors...been in a month for the minor body work, and blocking....

Hopefully with the suspension mods, the 3.6 with the original "NO BAD DAYS dual program chip" and the weight reduction it will be fair representation of the original. Original weight was something over 2600lbs. Front and rear bumpers, rear duck, front fenders and hood are now fiberglass.....any guesses as to final weight?

Glass parts were somewhere around 3K total, plus paint and install.....but I have a modern galvanized tub with only 75K original miles.....
