Upgrading heater fans?
Hi,
Is it possible to upgrade the side kick panel heater fans, by perhaps fitting a fan with a larger CFM rating? Has anyone does this before? If so, what size/CFM fan did you use? Just curious ![]()

I went down this road when I was looking for an option other then the factory kick panel blowers for my 78. What stopped me dead in my tracks was the heated air temperature. I don't recall the exact value [ but the number is in one of my past posts] but it was in the neighborhood of 225 degrees at the deforster vents! That temperture makes it very hard to find electric motors that like to work in such a harsh environment. I ended up using a pair of used factory blowers and I'm very happy with the results..heat and air flow.

I was considering adding something like this for defrost in my car
http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2002936/showCustom-0/p-2002936/N-111+10201+600002304/c-10101 Maybe it would help you having another blower in series?

I bought something similar to that on Ebay for around $25 through www.racecityraceparts.com. Can't remember CFM, but it is 3" around at openings and made by Detmar. I have yet to install it though.

if you put holes in the front of the car you can force in a lot of air and get rid of it all (the electric crap)

Thanks for the responses/suggestions.
I have poor airflow into the cabin because I've removed the engine compartment blower in order to fit a full length intercooler, therefore, my heating relies solely on the factory footwell blowers, which I think are on their way out. They don't flow enough CFM to effectively draw the heat from the Oil Cooler HEat Exchanger I have, below. ![]() ![]()

Merv,
I'm using SSI's and just the footwell blowers and I have more heat then I know what to do with. It will melt your plastic ta-ta's! If you had automatic heating system then the blowers need the rear blower or a power resistor to trick the system that the blower is in place.
