911 shroud colors....what does a red signify?

Red shroud w/ MFI would be 911S.

911SC's have red shrouds as well, but I don't think the shroud would work on an MFI engine.

Agreed, my '72 S had MFI and a red shroud.........and sounded like a symphony!

Not to be negative, but whereas red on a factory older shroud may indicate an S motor, many red shrouds are red because they were painted red.

Don't go by shroud color only to determine the engine designation. angela

Factory red shrouds aren't painted at all ... the resin is tinted and it was vacuum-bagged for minimum weight, and the individual strands of glass fiber are visible! If painted, then it is not original! All 2.0 - 2.4 MFI engines with red shrouds were 911S variants ... 2.7 & 3.0 MFI red shrouded engines were RS or Carrera engines.

I'd like to see a red resin shroud.

Mine was painted red. The engine had never been rebuilt before. I'll bet Porsche painted green shrouds red in '77 to fit to SC engines.

Nope, sorry.....I woulda bet on you would pop out of the woodwork on this....it's a friend's new ride that he paid a $1,000.00 for......we're getting it running for him.
