Door Pockets - 79SC

This past week the drivers side door pocket gave up. It looks like 3 of the 4 mounting screws have ripped through the fiber of the door pocket where they mount to the interior.

I talked to the local Porsche dealer and they were not coming up as available for my car, and if they could find them, they were about $400 each. Obviously if I am going to replace one, I am going to do both since I want them to match.

Does anyone have any photos of the replacement door pockets listed here on pelican? They only link to the generic parts diagram. Or does anyone have any good ideas where to look for these door pockets?

Oh, and the car is black with tan interior. The door pockets themselves are carpeted on the outside.

VB,
Don't give up on the pockets you have. You can use washers or larger screws to attach the pocket to the door. If the holes are torn real bad you could use a thin 3/4 inch strip of aluminum along the bottom edge of the pocket as reinforcement. If they are really done and there is no way to reattach them then I would recommend you opt for some RS type panels rather then spend all that cash on new pockets.
Also you can try Ebay if all else fails.

You can patch the torn-out area in the fiberboard with fiberglass from the back side and re-drill the holes. Then go to your local hardware store and buy some trim screw washers like these to distribute the strain on the fiberboard:

They usually come in stainless steel which will keep them from rusting in the future. I'd replace the screws with stainless steel ones too, since this area is prone to moisture exposure.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Are either of those reasonable for the areas where fiber board has cracked away from the hole? I am just thinking that maybe the structure of the bottom may not be so great anymore.

Here are some pictures of the three areas in question. On two of them along the bottom, there are actually cracks along the bottom that started at the screw holes.

You can buy fiberglass reproductions on ebay for around $125 USD for a pair. You will need to recarpet them yourself.

For what its worth, I just bought a pair of fiberglass ones from Ebay for $105 including shipping from Florida to SoCal. Pretty reasonable I think. They will go in when the interior is redone.

My driver's side door pocket almost separated itself from the door about a month ago. There was only one screw holding it and the pocket felt like it was going to fall apart any minute. I just took the pocket off completely, drilled a couple of new holes in the door sheet metal, added a bracket to connect the door panel to the lower part of the pocket and it was good as new. Oh yeah, some really large washers as mentioned earlier do help. It helps when your dad worked in construction for 40+ years and has a few toolboxes full of "goodies". Good luck!
