Quarter window ventilation theory

Ok, I've been suffering on the track - I need air! I have flush-mount lexan quarter windows. Yeah, I know they sell them with cool louvers in them, but I need a 'today' solution; I'm doing a DE @ Thunderhill tomorrow and another on Friday.

I'm considering drilling a couple of holes in the quarter windows, towards the rear. I have a 2" hole saw that I think would be perfect.

Thoughts?

got time to glue a little rear-facing 'shield' over the holes?
like a hood scoop facing backwards

you can prob. use acetic acid as an instant glue...

I saw some Mustangs a few weeks ago with about an 18" piece of 3" duct tie wrapped around the mirror. The hose pointed right up to the driver.

A whole bunch of years ago I used this method when driving down into California's central valley. Used that aluminized smog/heat-riser hose and taped the inlet so it was right where the air spills of the lower corner of the windshield. Aimed the other end right at my crotch.

Ohhhhhh, yeahhhh...

Boy did that feel good in the 110° heat. Thank god those vinyl racing seats from the 80s are a thing of the past.

You have to ask yourself why the factory made the louvres near the front of the quarter window and up high. You would think that with the door window down, this would be ineffective. Maybe they drove some race cars with the widows up, I'm not sure.

Seems like holes anywhere would help. Of course, a NACA duct in the vent widow would be the ticket.

Unless your trunk weatherstripping is doing an outstanding job, air flows into the trunk area and pressurizes it pretty good. If not, some strategically-placed holes will cure that. Next, install a length of SCAT hose into the clock hole and point it at your face or appropriate body part. An inline blower motor can add more volume if desired.

Hope this helps,
Sherwood

GREAT ideas! Check out aircraftspruce.com for some really cool NACA ducting products. You'll get some good ideas there about how the airplane guys do theirs. I believe you'd find the scoops and ducting that you need.

If you remove the duct work to the vent grill above the front hood you will have air flow. I had mine out for a while to get a problem worked out in my wipers and it was amazing how much air came thru.

to bad it's not a 74 or 75...you could just pluck out the "speaker grill" in the middle of the dash & get LOTS of air from that not-so -good trunk "seal"....

when I slam my hood on my 75...the grill often is blown out onto the seat.....or into my NOT amused wife's lap.....
