Porsche Crest Spoiler Questions (chin, rear, ducks, etc)

I want to put on a chin spoiler only and found this quote in one of the threads:

Quote:
front only = oversteer at speed
rear only = understeer at speed
I have a Targa and didn't want to add a rear spoiler, because I don't like the way it looks. Any truth to this quote?

I also have a/c in the car and was wondering if I need to do anything special with the underbelly condensor protector bar?

Now, regarding ducks.... I intend to keep the a/c. Supposing I wanted to swap a duck on and off for the track, how difficult would that be? Can the rear a/c condensor be loosened from the current decklid and bolted to the duck without disconnecting the lines? How much of a P.I.T.A. would this be?

It is widely accepted that a rear spoiler (like a whale tail) without a chin is dangerous at speed. For this reason, I am pretty sure that a chin without a rear spoiler will contribute to the handling to some degree. I can say that many folks have said that you can run a chin without the rear.

I'm looking for a little more stability in the front when at the track - so I hope I get some improvement!

You may want to look at your tire and alignment setup as well.

A whole suspension refresh is overdue, but for my last track session this year, a chin spoiler is a low hanging fruit.

I believe our cars are designed for either both or neither. The spoilers do make a difference at speed and will behave to keep the ends of the car more firmly planted.

The rear spoiler makes a much bigger diference than the front spoiler. I have a chin spoiler only on my targa and I may have noticed a small improvement in stability on the street, but I haven't tracked this car.

How fast do you go at the track. I'd bet you're fine with just the chin spoiler as long as the turns are slower than 120 mph. I've only been at one track where I was going better than 120 in a turn, but mayeb I'm just slow.

A spoiler isn't a cosmetic upgrade for 911's, it a mechanical upgrade. The change at one end will affect the other. I read somewhere that the rear duck has benefits at speeds as low as 50mph. I'll try and dig it up for you.

The effects of the spoilers are subtle, Front w/o rear is fine for sure(in fact the added lightness in the back may appeal to you, it does to me), some object to rear only, but if there is an issue w/ that it will only be at very high speed(never tried that myself though)

I've run mine in numerous differnt configs, 3 different fonts w/ 2 different rears on the '72
and 2 different fronts w/ 3 different rears on the '76

They were all fine even at speed. Get the suspension/wheels/tires set up right the rest will follow

Well of course! Slammed to the ground is also a mech upgrade, but on my car, it won't look good.

Jerry: I do 110-115 on the straights. I can't imagine doing that kind of speed through a turn!
