Best tires for stock 1986 Carrera
I bought Dunlop 9000 Sports last time because they were on sale at Tire Rack for like $74 each. Was all I could afford back then but they were good tires, wore like iron.
25K miles on 'em now but want to upgrade to a tire where even after 50 feet you can feel the difference. I hear the Michelin Pilots are pretty sweet on these cars. Would appreciate any comments on the Michelins or other high performance street tires. Maybe on a track someday. Thanks for the tips. Pete

You'll get a million different opinions on this. Also it depends a lot on what you want to use the car for.
I had SP9000s and didn't like them. They developed flat spots overnight. I got Continental N1 now. The michelins are probably good, but not exactly cheap. |

Yokohama AVS Sports. I just put them on my 930 for the street. Look mean, corner great.

I have been very happy with my BF Goodrich g-force KDW's . Before buying any tire I check out the reviews / ratings on tirerack.com

wheel size is critical -- some top tires are not avail. in 15"
so determine that; then go to tire rack and see what can be had; take that list and re-post here with details about your conditions (rain? snow? % track use? cost range?) and you can get help that is better dialed in.

Kumho MX. Great bang for the buck- as evidenced by the sometimes low availability at Tire Rack.
If you're looking for a street tire that can handle some serious track duty? Look no further than the S03. I have Yoko ES 100 right now and they are surprisingly capable of handling my less than stellar track abilities. They've withstood my heavy braking, lotsa 4 wheel howling thru the corners and two big tail wagging power oversteer spins. They're not the best tire on earth, but they are holding up very well under the abuse of three track events (two one-days @ Blackhawk and a recent two-day @ Gingerman) this year. Some fiddling with tire pressures and they hang on okay. They pick up a lot of rubber, but it comes off with time. Got rid of most of it on the rears with the long ride home from G-Man. Fronts have much more build-up and will need some more scrubbing. Like the others said, 1000 different opinions. But the S03 looks to be the best bang for the buck street-track driving. I'm gonna try the Hankook R S2 Z212 with my next set (soon) because i'm cheap. ![]()

If you are doing any more than one track event per year, it really is worth it to have an other set of rims with dedicated track tires mounted. It really is not more expensive in the long run after you have burned up a couple of sets of your street tires. For the track, Kumho offers very good grip with decent wear at a reasonable price.

Yoko ES100's - love em and they look great too. On the track they are very capable. There's no need to buy more expensive if your just DE-ing with the occassional Auto-X. We get alot of rain up here and I feel confident driving. Great all round tire. Price is right too.

Kuhmo MX's--Great price for street/track tire. Kuhmo Escta 712's for super budget minded and regular driving around town. I beat the crap out of them on the track too for 5 DE's and 12,000 street miles. $400 for a set of 4.

OK it sounds like Bridgestone S03s are the way to go. I know they corner well a bud has them on his Altima SE-R. Am I going to feel the difference versus the Dunlops all the time or only when cornering hard?
I'm hoping my next tires will sweeten up the steering and make the car feel even more nimble. Pete

I can't compare them to any other tire since I've never had another tire on the car, but I think you'll love 'em!
