Early heat exchangers
Are all the heat exchangers from 1970-74 the same regardless of whether they were used on carburetor, MFI or CSI engines? Are the mufflers interchangeable?

There were differences in material, more stainless steel was used as the years progressed, early ones tended to rust away. The steel in the outer box was intended to rusr befiore the inner so a visual is usually a good way to evaluate them.
The '72 on MFI cars had a heat stove connection for the MFI t-stat heater on the drivers side box. There were some really strange looking ones used for EGR on Ca. cars ![]() pipe size and collector spacing was the same on all years, mufflers are interchangeable thru '73. '74 muffler has a slightly different exit design
