993 caliper tightening torque specs

I was hoping someone out there could help me... I am doing a brake job on a friends 993 (the cost of using borrowing the car for a DE weekend) and I need to know the torque specs for the caliper bolts. (both front and rear)

The factory recommends that the front bolts not be reused. Back it's OK

rear is same as front, but can be reused

If your just doing pads there should be no need in removing the calipers.
This is something I've been studying on the 993's over at Rennlist. Is this true?

Yes, it's true for both the front and back. If you are just changing out pads you undo the hold-down clips, disconnect the wear sensors at the strut and pull the pads out. You will have to spread the pads and get the pistons pushed back into the calipers before being able to pull them out. The rears are the same.

This works if you aren't having your rotors turned or replaced.

The answer is.. it depends

the Brembos used from 964 up come oem w/ anti squeel spyders that are glued solidly to the pads.


The spring side of the spyder clips into the pistons


Sometimes you can get a scraper between the pad and spyder to separate them, if you can then the pad can be removed w/o taking the caliper off it's mount, then the spyder can be removed as well.

But if you cannot, then the caliper will need to be unbolted. Not really a big deal either way.
