EDIS ignition conversion-how?

Well I just won a Ebay auction for a EDIS ignition setup for a 6 cylinder and I have not done much research on the conversion. I am planning a winter project of converting to EFI and then once that's running correctly adding the EDIS. So for you guys that have done this how hard is it to wire this in? I assume you remove the OEM coil and the CDI? Where are you guys getting ignition wires made? I'm sure I will have lots of questions over the next few months but this will start it off. Oh just remembered how are you guys attaching the 36-1 wheel to the OEM crank pulley? This is going to be a interesting project. The ignition comes with all the connectors for the coil,ignition module etc. I will probably be useing Megasquirt ECU. This will be going on my 83SC.

We've done it on Mike's 2.7. On Mike's engine we welded a tooth wheel on the pulley. We've got a Megasquirt-EDIS package that is part of our individual throttle body offering.

I have the whole package running on my car and the setup is quite easy.

Like Souk said, you can weld a toothed wheel to your pulley or we can provide you with one. Keep in mind that you have to be careful with the stock Ford 36-1 toothed wheel. Some wheels are too large to fit on the 911 crank pulley. We also have sensor mounts and distributor plugs.

We can get you new plug wires that we have made special for this application, or depending on where you mount your coil pack, you can use your stock wires with some modifications.

Are you going to run the relay board?

You also may have some tach issues. The older tach's cannot interpret the signal from the EDIS control module, later tach's can. You should be OK with the '83.

The EDIS ignition is an easy installation once you get the toothed wheel attached to the pulley.

Mike I am assuming the toothed wheel mounts behind the stock pulley? Between the pulley and the block? And do you mount the "missing tooth" in line with the timing mark on the pulley? Not sure on the relay board, I have seen you mention it in past posts what exactly does the relay board do? I have pretty much made up my mind I'm going with either TBITZ's kit or yours just trying to do as much fact finding before I pull the trigger. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I welded mine to the backside of the pulley. Depending on the thickness of the toothed wheel, you may want to add a small spacer so it clears the fan housing. Otherwise you may need to shave a bit of material off for proper clearance.

There are a couple of ways you can set the notch and sensor for the EDIS setup. They way that I used is that I set the pulley to TDC for #1 and centered the notch around this mark on the pulley. Then I located the sensor 6 teeth (60 degrees) before the notch. We have a sensor holder that places the sensor in the correct location for this setup.

The relay board isn't necessary to the installation, it's just a convenience and reduces the chance of miswiring during the installation. The relay board provides a central place for all of the required relays, fuse protection, and external wiring for MegaSquirt. It helps keep the installation clean looking and organized.

I believe that you can also use the stock distributor as a trigger instead of the pulley wheel. Not as accurate, but still very good. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall hearing of multiple implementations like this on the MS forum.

You can implement the stock distributor with Megasquirt to control spark just not with the EDIS setup.
