what are these drums worth?
the 356 forum is pretty slow, so i'll post this here, because lots of you guys have them. i inherited these drums, backing plates and brake hardware. early carrera fronts. what is the value of these things? there can't be too many around.

At yesterdays Round-up in New Mexico I overheard some
356 owners talking about this very subject. $600 per drum was the figure I heard being tossed around. I dont know squat about these parts, just repeating what was discussed. HTH Your results may vary.

I've seen 356 guys drooling over a rusted out shell, tripping over each other to offer big $$$ for it. Based on that observation I'd say your drums would be worth a whole lot more if you dunked em in salt water for a year or so and left em in a field. Better yet, stash em in a barn and cover them with bird droppings, then they'd be worth millions
![]() Sorry I'm no help but I'm in one of those moods. No offense to the 356 guys out there ![]() |

John,
Don’t commit to sell them until you find exactly what they are and what car they came from. They are at least 356A/B GT brakes that came on late GTs and most Carreras. The fronts are 60 mm wide and the rear 40 mm. Both F & R are nominal 280 mm ID. They may be from a RS 550A or RSK. They are era ’58-’61, no later. Post some images of the shoes, wheel cylinders and backing plates. Are the wheel cylinders aluminum? You might find you have $5-10K there with ALL the parts. I see you make your money the old fashioned way – you inherit it. Hehe Good find! Best, Grady

John,
You can probably get a very accurate answer by calling one of your East Coast counterparts...... John or Ray Paterek. They are very highly regarded in 356 restoration circles. If not comfortable with a call I'll stop by their shop with a pic of your parts. Paterek Brothers Inc 13 Commerce Street, Chatham, NJ 07928 Tel: (973) 635-5924
