Help - Dead Engine
Hi Guys
Picked up my car a week or so ago from the shop, after some fairly major bodywork, including new front suspension pan, sills and restoration of the fuel tank. Took it out for it’s first decent run today and about 35kms in, on the freeway, the engine gradually (over a period of say 30 seconds) lost all power prior to dieing completely. Battery was flat so couldn’t turn the thing over again. No warning, it had been running very strongly prior to this, happily revving out to the red line on a couple of occasions. Didn't notice whether the alternator light was on or not, but I'm usually pretty aware of these things and think I would have noticed if it was on. By way of further information, the alternator was replaced about 5 years ago and the battery is a single 2 year old Odyssey, which after sitting idle for a week out of the car started it without any problems. Also changed over the 2 fuel filters that are installed inline with the carbs. Car has been dropped off back home and I’d really appreciate any suggestions as to what the problem might be. Cheers

my guess is that the alternator is dead and you were running the car on the battery
till it ran out of juice. A quick check would be to charge the battery or boost it see if it fires if it does I would check the wiring for the alternator and battery. If every thing checks out I would be ordering a alternator asap. thats what i would do anyway. hope this helps |

I agree with Herman. Those were the same symptoms my car had, and the problem was the alternator.
