Another RSR Clone Project - Update 13
The RSR clone project is nearing completion. Last weekend my son and I put the motor and tranny in. This morning I fired it up for the first time. I followed Wayne's break-in procedure, first building up the oil pressure and then enabling the ignition and fuel pump. It started on the first crank and I ran it in at around 2000 rpm until the thermostat opened and the oil flow to the front cooler started. It sounded so sweeet running through the open megaphones I couldn't resist blipping the throttle up to about 3000 rpm a few times. I still need to set the front ride ht and the front and rear camber & toe and install the CV joints & axles.
The car will go back to Auto Associates for the Ralley muffler install and Dyno testing. Another few weeks and I'll be on the road with it and maybe even one driver's ed before it I put it away for the winter. A few pics to celebrate the engine firing up! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1125167425.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1125167448.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1125167475.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1125167509.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1125167602.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1125167637.jpg |

I've put mine on the market again. There's been a lot of interest, but, to most people, it's just a cool -- and expensive -- parts car .... If I sell it, I'm gonna buy an early 90s Mazda MX-5 (Mazda Miata to our pals in the USA) and go racing! How's your ride? |
DAMN!
sigh....someday _:( |
Here's the A$$ shot
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1125226380.jpg The motor is a 3.0 liter twin plug based on a '78 SC core. It is running 10.5:1 CR with Mahle RSR pistons & cylinders. The cam is a GE-60 style from our own Camgrinder and 46mm PMO's. The original Bosch dizzy was mofdified by Gerry Woods for twin plug. I built the engine myself using Waynes book to guide me. The fan finish was done by Auto Associates to duplicate the OEM finish of that period. It is a Glasurit paint blend with a clearcoat. Auto Associates can provide details. The color of the car is signal orange which was an original color avaialable for the RSR. I bought the exterior LHS mirrior from Mid America (Tweeks). Quality is not great. At some point I may try to repair my original mirror, Once I get the car shaken down I'll post some dyno numbers, the curb wt, some driving impressions and some before and after acceleration times. The acceleration data (40-60 mph, 60-80, 80-100 etc) should be interesting as I did the trials on the original 2.4 CIS 911T before I started the project. The original times were almost a spot-on match to the orignal road test results. |
what an awesome car.
put me in the "this is my dream car category" glad to see conn represent |
Beautiful. Just beautiful! (I don't know what else to say! :D)
|
Thats one beautiful car!
|
Sweet car, Sweet garage!
|
Very nice! I'm highly considering repainting my 911T in it's original color - Signal Orange. I have a duckbill decklid on it now, and I think I might get an RS style front bumper. I think I'll keep it narrow for now.
|
Just amazing...
|
Good god is that clean - amazing.
|
Truly amazing car.
Make sure you enjoy it now that it is finished Michael |
Tom,
Great job! What are the wheels 9 and 11's? Dave |
Front wheels are restored OEM 16X9 Fuchs, Rears are custom 3 piece 16X11's bolted construction made from Fuchs inner/center cores and BBS inner and outer rims.
|
fan finish? I didn't know they had a fan finish and thought they were all just bare metal...can anyone else provide more details about this?
it almost looked like fiberglass when I saw it. BTW why can't we use fiberglass fans? don't the horizontal fans of the 935 etc... use fiberglass fans? is it reliability issues? MJ |
The fan finish is the trickest part of the whole car!! But the rest of it is fantastic as well.
|
Wow!!
Stunning!! and Congrats!!! Edward |
Seriously if you EVER want to trade for a half painted sahara beige '75 911S Targa PM me.
|
I am just in awe of what people can do to create their own cars. You must be very proud...and deserve to be! http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pray.gif
