Help me ID this tail
I don't know what type of tail this is, but it appears to be fabricated of fiberglass. Can anyone identify it or is it some random aftermarket piece? Thanks!

The early one above is the "teatray". The white ones are the basic Turbo or Whale tail

The '75 - '77 Turbo tail in the original post, and IROC/RSR tails bear a close resemblance to cetacean flukes ...
The later '78 - '89 Turbo appendage could hardly be likened to anything in the biological world! Tea Tray, well, maybe in some parts of the world, but the terminology is hardly a concensus, as this thread shows!

The red one in the original post is an early('75 -'77) turbo whale tail, they came after TÜV nixed the original ducktail. The original whale tail came in 2 street versions, the one pictured is a turbo whale tail, this version was used in the normally aspirated cars ![]() there was also a p/u one that bolted on to a stock steel lid ![]() the "tea tray" was first used on th '78 ROW 930 and every other 930 until '89 The n/a cars continued to use the p/u version or the original all f/g whale tail untill '82 when what is usually called the Carrera tail was introduced ![]()

Agree 100%. I pointed this out once or twice and was ignored. But then again, we have to live with those cars in "Concourse" condition. ![]()

![]() Considering that both my Brother and I are sailors as well we somewhat represent this remark! Wish I knew as much about tail, but got smart and stopped chasing it years ago... JoeA
