Question Remove Oil Cap - Idle remains stable!

Gents,

I thought when you remove the oil cap to check the oil level, the engine idle should drop (or dip) 100-200 RPM's. Mine does not seem to do this The idle remains rock steady!

Does this mean I have a big gaping vacuum leak somewhere?

I checked as many of the vacuum hoses around the intake and oil filler neck and they look fine

What else can I check?

I'm thinking perhaps:-

1. Checking and re-torquing the intake manifold bolts - What torque setting should I use?

2. Checking & tightening the rubber boot that joins the left and right "hemisphere" of the intake manifold?

Anything else?

P.S: I also noticed a white'ish/orange'ish foam residue under my oil cap. Is this something to worry about, or is it just moisture/condensation? It's been pretty cold down here lately, so I'm hoping the latter!

It means your idle stabilizer is doing it's job and the breather hose restrictor is in place.

You are correct....there should be a drop in idle when removing the oil filler cap.

Looks like you are on the right track. The intake manifold bolts should be torqued to 18 ft/lbs. Make sure you get to all 12 bolts.

As Chris mentions...check the restrictor valve, make sure it is positioned correctly.
