Carrera Vacuum Hoses?

In looking for solution to the hesitation problem on my 3.2 I notice that there is a vacuum hose coming out of the top of the fuel injection body (sorry, I do not know what its called) that goes to a "Y" fitting and then one line goes to a valve looking thing near the oil fill and the other disappears under the tin work to the left front side of the engine, from there, it appears to head towards the gas tank. The cloth wrapped vacuum line from the throttle body/fuel injection thing is old and loose, and the same with the cloth wrapped one that goes to the right to the oil fill line. The one that heads towards the fuel tank is rubber. I'll probably replace these this weekend as they're pretty beat, could this be causing my hesitation problem at around 3k revs. Sorry about the lack of terminology, but I'm still learning about the engine.

Seeing that your car is a "R.O.W." vehicle, it sounds like the vacuum hoses in question are retrofit hoses to make the car U.S.A. legal for smog requirements. They have to do with the gas tank venting system. Kinda hard to tell exactly what we are dealing with without a picture. Alot of the gray market cars that came into the U.S.A. had this "treatment" to get by with current smog laws. Try and post a pic.

The Y fitting you're talking about behind the "throttle body" goes to the Fuel Pressure Regulator on the left side of your engine bay and to the Fuel Damper, to the right side of your engine bay. Make sure those lines are secure and no vacuum is leaking from them as it could potentially cause a lean spot under load

Does the hesitation occur even at light/part throttle, or only wide open/full throttle?

Hugh, do you know how to check for vacuum leaks?

I don't really know, myself. I'm thinking some who knows could suggest a procedure.

When I was fixing a no-passum-smog problem in my Carrera, I was told to either trickle water on the suspicious vacuum hose, or to spray carb cleaner at it, and to listen for a change in the idle. Being a coward, I used the water. I heard no change, so I concluded there was no vacuum leak, and indeed the problem turned out to be an injector.

The best way to pin point a possible vaccum or intake leak is to do a smoke test. Find someone that has a smoke test machine and that will find it gauranteed.

One procedure I've heard about is to block off the intake and connect an air line regulator to one of the ports on the intake and compress 1bar/14psi of air into your intake. Any vacuum leaks will be made immediately apparent.

Yeah, it hesitates under partial load intermittently. those hoses are loose in the Y fitting so I'm going to replace them anyway. Then I'll try a squeeze bottle with water.

...or you can use one of these to see if hose and/or connectors hold a vacuum....
