What are they worth? 71 & 60

I "stumbled" across a couple of vintage Porsches in a barn here in Maine. One is a 1971 911T non-sunroof coupe, and the other is a 60? 356B. They are both extremely rough. Here is a run down of condition.

1971 T - No engine or transaxle, front suspension pan gone, floor pans tender in alot of places, Interior is there but ratty, quarters are ok, glass is all good, doors are replacements from later car, front fenders are rusty and dented, hood is rusty and dented. the car is 60% taken apart.

1960 B - No engine, transaxle, or driveshafts, body is tender in alot of places, old latex house paint paint job, floor pan is tender at best, susp pan is like swiss cheese, Interior is ther but real ratty, wiring has been hacked, glass is good.

They are both real rough and probably best served as parts cars, but I hate to see two more vintage cars be dismantled. If I were to purchase them, it will be with the intent to get them both back on the road as drivers.

Not looking for a critique of my stupidty for thinking about doing this, just looking for an approximate value for each so I can make a logical offer.

How old are you? Sounds like you might not have enough time left to do both....I hope you're about eleven.

I wish I was 11 again! I am also in the middle of my 78SC rebuild. So yes, ambitious is an understatement, crazy is more applicable I'm sure. I just hate to see them go to Pcar heaven if there is still a chance to save them.
I realize they would never be concours, or show, or maybe even good looking, but if I can interject and change their fate, it might be worth it.
My wife thinks I am nuts...and I almost agree with her. Almost!

Well as someone who has rebuild a 911 and is now working on another ground up rebuild, with one more waiting in the wings, I would say buy one, not both.

911's aren't a dime-a-dozen, but there are lots around. I would do the 356.

Andy neither of those cars are restoration candidates. Probably not even much there to sell as parts.

Andy,
Kurt is giving you some good advice. Sad to say, those cars will never be considered collectible, and the cost to bring either back to completeness could be staggering, for a car that would be worth 10 to 15K tops in most likelihood...

Move on, you will find better targets.

A reasonable offer?

To take the 911, $300. For the 356, $150. And make sure they give it to you in cash.

A 1960 356B Coupe, depending on whether it is a notchback or a fastback; is either the lowest or the second lowest rated 356 for value. With no powertrain, it's worthless as a builder. Top dollar is $10K & $15K respectively, according to Kieth Martin's latest numbers.
The 71 T coupe is about a $10 to $15K car also, complete no rust, in driveable condition...You do the math - an engine and transaxle will likely be $10K in the car and running... move on, man.

Took me a long time once to finally dump a girlfriend that didn't deserve a guy like me.....Hold on tight, take a deep breath and walk away......THEN, stay out of barns for awhile...

Hi Andy,

As you know I may be the only one here that started with something that bad. On the one hand it didn't cost that much (except the thousands of hours of my life), I enjoyed doing the work and learning, and have a car that I love. On the other hand, I see people selling solid rollers for practically nothing and imagine how much easier it would have been starting with one of those. Would I do it again? Probably not, but then again if the right cheap ugly thing came along...

Couldn't agree more. It's not always about logic.

Maybe it's a Maine thing...

That could be. No rust-free cars and long boring winters.

There's a business opportunity in there for someone:
Spring/Summer.> search out some rust free restorable cars in TX, NM, AZ, CA, etc... Pomona swap meet??

Truck cars to Maine

Sell to bored enthusiasts looking for winter projects. Bundle with Wayne's book(s)

repeat
