Bird #&%@ on my hood!

Ok, so I drove home at night a week ago not noticing that my hood was the victim of some seagulls "crap and run". Anyhow, i just took her out to wash and noticed it. I got all the poop off but a week of sitting on the paint has left matte patches all over the hood! They even have this slightly rough texture to them. I guess bird stomach acid is not good for paint. What can I do? my hood was just painted too! I tried a quick Zemol job but that did nothing. Rubbing compound??

Thanks,

Nik

No, a high speed buffer + perfect it III. Get a foam pad and the fabric pad..the fabric pad is for serious cutting. It WILL remove whatever is there and blend it in; also revives old paint. Just tried it..you usually use glaze afterward though.
total for the stuff you'll need is around 100 bucks (buffer = 50 at auto zone, perfect III is 25 bucks, pad will be 25 or so) and you'll be set for anything that comes up in the future as well.

Don't use rubbing compound. First, make sure you have washed all the grit and dirt off the paint. Then use a milder cleaner like P21S Paintwork Cleanser. If that doesn't work, then use a stronger cleaner like 3M Imperial Hand Glaze. Rubbing Compound or Clay bar is much too rough if you don't need it.

these don't sound like things you pick up at the local store. Where might I get them? oh, I live in Canada.

THanks,

Nik

Be careful when wiping bird poo off your. It can contain little rocks. (They swollow them for their digestion process.) I saw the results (scratches) on a friend's Audi hood from trying to "scrub" it off.

If Pelican doesn't have these products, you can get them at Carcareonline.com (no connection to me). Larry is super and will take the time to help explain what works best for your car.

I second Kurt B's suggestion. I was at my garage this morning (to cut a second outlet on my muffler following the full rebuild on the engine) and asked their detailing guy what was using on a dark blue VW. Used the same thing to take out scratches. Paint job looked almost new. BTW the muffler sounds awesome with the 964 cams. Also very loud.

you can get 3M or Meguiar's products (start w/ Body Scrub) at most discount stores or parts places

for whatever brand you get, follow the above advice starting with a fine polish

Meguiar's has an 800 help # and they are pretty good

Next time - take a look at the car whenever it is parked - bird crap needs to be flushed off w/water ASAP -- that's ASAP!

It contains uric acid which will eat into the paint after eating thru the wax, and yes may have rocks in it (you'd eat rocks too if you had no teeth).

Keep the car waxed to help protect the paint. Use 2 thin coats - not 1 thick one...

Ok, this is weird. It's been a few days since i initially washed the car. After it was washed the marks left were matte, had texture to them and wouldn't come off. Last night I had a look again and the marks easily rubbed off with my thumb!! Ha! I guess exposure to air for a few days afer having the majority of the poop washed off did something!

Now if only exposure to air would fix all my fuel system woes.

Nik
