I hate to say it, but if you suck with computers, MegaSquirt was the last thing you needed, especially if you are doing it from scratch. Have you tried posting here:

http://www.msefi.com/index.php

This board will be able to solve any question you might have.
Good luck!

Here's a good download link:

http://www.msefi.com/dload.php

Did you build the unit yourself? Do you have a stimulator to test it?

Ben you got rid of CIS because you couldn't get your car to run well. You hated CIS, but lots of cars run very well with CIS. To be straight, you didn't take the time and didn't have the patience to learn how CIS works and how to troubleshoot it. Megasquirt will suck worst if you don't take the time to learn to use it.

Who did you get the system from, and did they not give you a basic load? Have you contacted your provider?

To connect the tuning software loaded on your computer (most likely some version of Megatune) to the Megasquirt ECU, you need a DB-9 cable that runs from your COM1 port to the ECU. Once connected, open the tuning software on you laptop, turn the key on the car so the Megasquirt powers up and open you .MSQ file. You will now be asked if you want to burn this file to the ECU, if you do click yes, otherwise click no. You are now running the Megatune software and it is communicating with the ECU.

When you want to log, click on 'file' - 'datalogging' - 'record' or Alt-L. You are now creating a log that you can view in log viewer or load into MSTweak to give you recommended fuel maps.

You definitely need to read the whole Megatune manual a few time before you jump into tuning. It should answer a lot of your questions. Here is the link to the manual if you don't have it already - http://www.msefi.com/msinfo/manual/mtune.htm

souk,

I really liked my cis and fulley understood how it worked it just needed a fuel distributor which was to expensive to replace and could possible have more expensive parts go on the way out. This kit was a better choice. It works well just needs fine tuning and I need the answers on how to fine tune whcih mike has provided. I will download the manual and read through it. I have the zip file and all the other stuff but it does not seem to communicate with the ecu. tony has gave some hints so I will try there. But rest assured I fulley covered all my bases on my cis.

thanks

Ben,

Did you get my last email about having the ignition key in the "Run" position while connecting via MegaTune? MegaSquirt needs power to run.

Once you get over the learning curve of navigating through MegaTune and datalogging, I'm sure you'll change your mind about MegaSquirt. It just takes a bit of time to learn how to interfacing to your engine with a laptop instead of a screw driver.

email me with any questions.

Also check out the tuning links on my web page for further help:

Cheers,

Tony your are probably right infact I should clarify why I dislike it! The thing is wonderful just the tuning software is hard to navigate causing for major frustration when I don't fulling understand the software... Overall the kit kicks butt!!!!!!!!

You probably have a laptop from the Dark Ages like me. New stuff (OS and hardware) seems to work out bugs like that on its own.

You should post some pics of this setup. I'd like to see how it looks on your car. In fact, I don't think I've ever sen a pic of your whole car. I did see the car once here in CA before you got it, but you've repainted and detailed the painted trim, right? Show it off!

I'm an Electrical Engineer by trade, so I guess that makes me a computer nerd Keep that in mind, but here are my thoughts:

Personally I think the documentation is very good. Not sure if people have taken the time to read the MegaManual . It goes in great detail about EFI. From things like "ideal gas laws", to sequential injection, to water injection for wild turbocharged engines. It deals with every aspect of EFI. If anything, I think the MegaManual has too much info. I think people are overwhelmed with the info and "tune out" quickly. They don't read the all important section of Tuning Your MegaSquirt which is over 60 pages of how to tune your MegaSquirt. This section MUST be read.

The other thing to note is that all this documentation was written by folks like Lance, Bruce, Al, Eric and others on there own time.

note: I'm always happy to answers folks questions about the kit or MegaSquirt. Just shoot me an email and I'll help best I can.

Cheers,

Thanks. Ben. I understand the overall benefits to sequential EFI over a CIS system, and that must make a big improvement in mileage, emissions and maybe performance. My biggest question is does that system alleviate the need for a mild cam with no overlap?

Speaking of emissions, will that mod pass CA smog?
