Magnaflow Stainless / 1976 930 / Photo Page

I've just posted a simple photo page showing various stages of a single-in / dual out Magnaflow stainless muffler on my '76 930 ....

Magnaflow Install Photos / 1976 930 Turbo

It's a bit shy on text ..... I'm just out of time at the moment.

If you spot any glaring blunders please fill me in .....

Thanks ....

Rick

How did it sound?
I purchased one some time back and returned it when I saw the 180* turn that the inlet made to the driver's side tailpipe. There is NO muffling for 1/2 of the exhaust.
I posted about this and got no responces from anyone who had used that exact muffler.

Looks great! Do you get any bad resonance at certain RPM? I'm very happy w/ my GHL system.

Are you going to sell your old stock muffler? If so, PM me with your price.
Thanks,

Rarly & Mike ....

...... thanks for the input ......

Sounds *great* at idle ..... deep, throaty ..... like it means business ..... not overly 'loud' but rather a 'commanding prescense'. Brief throttle blips gets respectable attention.

Retains throaty-grumble from launch to exactly 3k .... then a sharp staccato raspiness from 3k to about 3.6 k ..... and it's 'quite' loud within this short range .... ( I'm undecided about this aspect of it ) ..... once out of the 'raspy' range it levels and tames out to a comfortable pitch and volume at 60 to 80 mph cruising speeds.

However, with foot down and boost on, it screams 'race car' ..... or, in other lingo: "Write me a ticket, officer."

I'll try to get a decent audio clip posted soon ...

Rick

Still running Pirelli P7's?!?! Yes, they were the ultimate performance tire for about 10 years straight (what tire today could possibly match that?) but the last batch has to be 10 years old by now.

For the record my dad had a set in his '78 SC until a few years ago. They were put on in 1985.

Installation looks nice. One (picky) thing that you might want to do is add a dump pipe to the waste gate instead of piping it into the driver's side tail pipe. That is an added PITA, when you remove the muffler you must also unbolt the waste gate. Sound will be no different.
This same plumbing is what causes your "system" to be so loud above 3000rpm. The waste gate is completely un-muffled. The only true "muffler" readings you will get are with the waste gate closed.

I have a stock muffler on my engine with a dump pipe on the waste gate. It is stock quiet until I want it loud, then all he!! breaks loose! It is VERY loud on boost. Not so bad inside the car only behind it.

I'd like to know what your muffler sounds like if the waste gate were also muffled.

Very hawt!!!

But I agree with Rarly about the dump having its own separate system.
