DId I F@#K up? Fuel Tank problem.

Today I start to take the front of my car apart to get ready for my first DE in Oct. As I was lifting up in the fuel tank, I bent and broke what I think is called a petcock. Fuel started leaking right away.
Does anyone know where I can find one? Part #Wayne?

The part I broke is the one with the tube coming out nad curving up and back

I just happened to pull and repalce the tank today on my SC....looks like someone tried to lift the car with a jack under the sender and dented it....totally screwing up the new sender that was in it. I think it was the tow guy when I broke down a few months ago....

Tried to bang it back flat with a dowel stuck down the sender hole and reinstall...no gud....

So new/used tank.....the bottom fittings were a 17mm flare fitting for the return line and a slip on rubber tube with a hose clamp from the fuel pump......it doesn't look anything like what I see in your pic.

Sorry...have you got a Haynes manual?

did you break the welded fitting in the tank, the banjo or the banjo bolt? The later two are replaceable. The tank could be welded (brazed) but that would require a VERY clean, flushed tank to avoid gas vapors.

Jamie,
NO I did not break the fitting in the tank, the fitting that the fuel line connects to.
I think that it is a "banjo or the banjo bolt"
It is the part that the bolt goes though.

Looks like it's just the banjo that broke...Aeroquip makes a 10mm or 12mm banjo with a barbed end on it. Take the fitting off and measure the ID of the banjo. Aeroquip 12mm banjo is listed in teh carbs fittings section of any Aeroquip catalog. Sorry, I don't have the catalog handy else I'd give you the part number. The 10mm banjo with the barb is more common

Derek,

Let me look for my catalog in the morning. It's buried int he garage somewhere...in the meantime, measure the banjo. I think it's a 12mm.

Here something else to check out:

I don't know what size it is, but it's PN: 10536.035 "Fuel Inlet"

Found here...

http://www.piercemanifolds.com/linkage.htm

Find out what size you need first...then go hunting..

It's probably a worn 12mm. 13mm seems odd. I have been working all day, just wraped up at 9:30PM on Labor Day, 13.5 hours in the garage or Porsche related work! I'm on my second Guiness now, and I'll have to look for the catalog tomorrow.

If you have a local Aeroquip dealer, you can give them a call.

OR! Here's something you can do with parts you may have. If you have an old cam oil feed line (the one that goes from the case to the oil restrictor on the cam box for non-oil fed tensioner), you can cut the rubber line and couple it to the existing fuel line with a barbed coupler from the hardware store. That fitting is 12mm. If you have a tube bender you can get the angle right or cut the rubber line long as posible to route it to the existing fuel rubber hose. Make sure to clean that oil line well.

Wayne,
Thanks, But do you know I looked a few times to see if you had it first? With no luck
It is hard to find the parts you need here some times, that is the only reason I ever look to other vendors.

Thanks

Geez! I never thought to look up the part number! I had such a hard ytime finding a OE 12mm banjo a few years ago, that I am now fixated on alternative parts!

I might just buy a few of those for some of my projects!
