Cup suspension... worth it?
Hey everyone...
I have an interesting opportunity I think. My birthday is Monday, and my wife said I could replace the shocks on the RSA. I've got a chance to purchase the shocks, springs, monoballs, etc.. that came off of a '93 Cup Car and put them on my car. The cost is $1200 for everything. I've just never been a big fan of used parts... the only upgraded used parts on my car are the calipers. Still, I'm running The stock RSA Shocks, with H&R springs, and my shocks have had it. They've got 80k miles on them and they're tired. The cup shocks/springs have 19k miles on them, but I don't really know how much of those are track miles. Seems like these would still be a big upgrade. My other considerations are a new set of cup coilovers from a '93 cup car or a set of H&R coilovers (which would not be as aggressive in terms of shock or spring rates) or the H&R cup kit. I'm not sure what to do. Just thought I'd check here for some advice and opinions. Thanks.

Seems like the H&Rs w/ Bilstein sports would be a better combination (and new) for around the same cost.
Don't think that monoballs on the street are a great setup either. Now if it's strictly a track car..... that would be different. Still think that I would rather have new Bilsteins

That's what I'd kind of been thinking... I'd always rather go with new shocks. The cup shocks are Bilsteins as well, they just have miles on them... Still, without spending $2800 on the H&R cup kit, the coilovers won't be quite as aggressive as the cups. Although, I've done fine with stock Boges... I'm sure it would still be an amazing improvement over worn out Boges.
The monoballs on the street don't really bother me. My WRX is my daily driver, and it's got a monoball coilover setup on it, and I don't even really notice it anymore... granted I remember thinking originally that it makes it feel like you're running double the spring rates you actually are.

Is this used set from a Cup USA or a Euro Cup? Big difference.

I'm assuming they are US spec as it is a US cup car.

Apparently the country is out of H&R coilovers... I've been trying since monday to find a set, but everyone says they won't be available for 6 weeks, and even then it's take a number and wait and see if a set will be available after everyone else gets theirs....
lol, I'm not very patient... why else would I go 150mph every weekend?

How serious do want your car? The cup suspension will make you love/hate your car.
If you have the springs already, the just get some good Bilstein HD or Sport struts front and rear. If you are building a track/DE car, then go ahead and buy the Cup suspension, but it will hurt your enjoyment of the car on road trips. Although it'll still be fun for weekend canyon runs.
