i did, no movement at least not on first sight, i'll get to that shaking next times, i'll do some suspension refreshing as well, that hasn't been touched at all, so i'm sure a few new bushings here and there are in order.... have to take the back end off anyway , something not right, right wheel sticks out to much ,though the car does run straight if left alone, weird)

the plan is to do the frontend first, then tackle the rear end when i do the first valve adjust , mini engine drop, and do the bushings and stuff while i'm in there

Hi Stijn,

Your second LogWorks plot has a lot of AFR spikes. If you notice, all the spikes go into the lean direction. That indicates ignition misses, not electrical noise. I would check your ignition system. While the car was sitting you might also have collected some condensation in the dizzy. That could explain it. It could also be that one injector is not spraying right.
Check the "lambda bar" on the LM-1 at idle to see if you have a lot of oscillations. That's also an indicator for uneven mix distribution/missfiring.
Smoothing the graph won't help you much with those spikes. It even can lead to a misrepresentation of the data because the spikes get averaged into the correct readings.

Regards,
Klaus

thanks Klaus, i'll definately check the dizzy , could well be condensation , my exhaust was bellowing white smoke , held my hand to it , and it was wetness , nothing else, so it's safe to assume there was similar condensation in the dizzy itself

btw, what to do about condensation in a dizzy?? ideal time to upgrade it with an Optical trigger??

i also still need to properly gap my sparkplugs for MSD

the injectors are fresh, checked out by Koller, so i think those are fine

Stijn,

Condensation in the dizzy will disappear once the engine is properly warmed up for a while. But you mention MSD. Are you using an MSD box with MSD coils or just the stock CDI with an MSD coil? If the latter, that might be the problem. The MSD coils are optimized for a high energy CDI, which the Bosch unit is certainly not. Therefore the spark duration with stock CDI and MSD coil can be too short to properly fire. I ran into that problem before when I had a 2.2 MFI.

Regards,
Klaus

MSD with Bosch blue coil, i don't really notice any misfiring or popping though , it sounds and feels smooth...

i'll keep in in mind, but i've got a number of things to do first , this was just an initial run , i do have to get my throttle bodies setup properly ... and then baseline again

Hi,

When you hear popping you have severe missfires. The LM-1 will pick up single missfires or incomplete combustion even at high RPM. You can't feel or hear it, but it will show up in the logs.

Klaus

that's pretty sweet , i just went through my old logs, they didn't have the spikes, not to this degree, so most likely your first guess about condensation is spot on , and it will go away with a bit more driving...

got the day off on thursday , it's getting fun messing with the car now , clear progress, no more big costs to be expected ( knock on wood ), and no more big downtime, i can work, drive, fiddle with some things, drive some more, etc etc... really helps for my motivation...
