Difference in location of rear sway body mount between years?
I've ordered a set of Tarrett sway bars for my '72. For the rear, I ordered the '78 and later set-up because I intend on upgrading to the aluminum trailing arms.
I assumed that the body mounting brackets are in the same location from '69 on. Someone had mentioned that this may not be true. Anyone know for sure? I'll check on my '83, but I'm wondering if it is a subtle difference that I may not notice. Please help me hemorrhage more cash on yet another upgrade for a car that won't be done for a couple more years. ![]() ![]()

'72 and later are the same.
'71 and older have a closer spacing between the bolts, and use a smaller bushing and bracket. The chassis is narrower on these cars as well. But you're '72 should be an easy swap.

I didn't know about the bolt spacing difference Tyson explained.
But at some point not too long after 1977 the shape of the bracket and of the bushing that goes in it changed from a flat floored bracket to one like this: \__/. With Weltmeister stuff you can get a bushing to fit either the flat or the part-hex bracket. And if all else fails, it is not difficult to cut off the bracket you have, grind the leftovers down somewhat, and weld in a new bracket. This usually includes purchasing one of the reinforced brackets, which is a good upgrade in itself. This was one of the first welding jobs I did, and even my cruddy welds have proven sufficient to hold up for 15 years or so. Walt Fricke |

The bolt spacing on the brackets changed in 78. 77 and earlier had the narrow spacing.

Yeah Chuck you're right. I forgot about the switch to the deeper channel on the SC. I was mostly thinking of the difference with the pre-72 mounts, which is more of an issue when welding in new consoles. Something I deal with a lot.
