Porsche Crest 915 shifter ball cup question

I am trying to improve the shifting of my 915. I have already replaced ALL bushings and the shift coupler with new.
My question is how much play should you get in the ball cup bushing? Mine is new but the "ball" moves around inside the cup even though it snapped in like it should. With the shifter in gear, I can move the lever a bit with a little pressure. The movement is occurring at the cup. No grinding of gears so the adjustment is good. Just looking for opinions. I have already tried a search with nothing abou this.
thanks,

There will be a slight bit of movement.. I wish thats all mine had for movement.. I've replaced everything including solid rear mounts and sport trans mounts. I think mine might be int he tower or the shift rod thats runs to the coupler

Yes, there is a bit of play. But it's not much. Also, with a pair of leather work gloves I'd be able to pull the cup off fairly easily.

Sounds like it is probably the way it's supposed to be. I'll keep saving for a WEVO.

If you are daunting enough, I have noticed that the majority of my shifting improvement has come from very small tweaks to the shift linkage. The new bushings helped, and made shifting much crisper, but for me, the linkage is where the secret lies. Make sure you mark before you begin or you'll be flustered....ask me how I know.

In neutral, there will be just a few mm of play when it's ll dione right.

You e can also shim or use heavier springs to help feel.

this assumes a factory ss kit

I used the blueprinting instructions on Seine Systems page, it really cleaned up the shifter play.

IMHO, there should be very little clearance (if any) between the ball end of the lever and the nylon bushing. It should be a snug fit while allowing free rotation.

Clearances stack up. The total clearance results in shifter movement w/o a commensurate movement of the shift rod into the gearbox.
