Front/Rear swaybar and MSD problem?
22mm front/rear weltmeister swaybar and msd system. The problem is i'm running the stock 19mm front swaybar and a rear 22mm rear swaybar.
Mechanic didn't realized that front 22mm setup required cutting and welding to make it work and by that means some dollars to have it installed. So i'm forced to wait a week or two and decide if i want to keep that setup front stock and 22mm rear or just go back to stock or pay the extra money to have the front installed. Haven't pushed the car yet to any hard curves, what i'am to suspect if i do with this 19mm front and 22mm rear? Also the msd was installed and now when i let my foot off the gas i get a rumbling popping sound at the exhaust. The car never use to do this before, i'm wondering if i should make the gap bigger on the sparkplugs? any suggestions would be great. Thanks

a guess on the sway bars is that it may be too much over-steer. I'd do a DE or similar for a clearer idea of what you're dealing with as per your driving style needs before spending serious bucks. If you don't have any track experience ask an experienced friend to take it for a track ride. Naturally your ride angle and corner balance should be decent for a good reading.
on the popping... I'm assuming it's internal muffler noise you talking about.. meaning you didn't touch the exhaust system at all? And you set the timing correctly after MSD install? Beru plug wire connectors and rev limiting rotors seem to take a beating with MSD according to some pelicanheads. I don't use either. Otherwise all I can offer is that on my car there is a fine line between muffler burbling & a little popping and none of that.. Meaning if my EGT is nice it'll make noise and if no noise the fuel mix is rich. Maybe the MSD affected your combustion.. meaning the fuel mix.. meaning I'd probably richen the CIS mix screw 1/2 turn and see what happens. If ng then return the setting. That said I'd monitor the spark plugs till it's dialed in the way you want it. If you see success then a exhaust gas analyzer fwiw. a local pope that visits us occasionally says that .040" is the best plug gap for max MSD engine power. that said a larger than stock gap increases the voltage necessary to fire the plugs. This creates more demand on the ignition cap, rotor, and wires. hope this helps

thanks for the info, i will try the fuel mix and hopefully that will be the solution, if not, then gap the plugs to 040. Also everything is stock on the car in the exhaust area. The popping noise happens at idle as well but mostly when letting the foot off the gas and down shifting. The mechanic said that he checked the timing on the car and it was fine.

more bs, Combustion is noticably affected by +/-50degF EGT, in general. Letting off the pedal easily causes a plus 50-100degF harmless change. The EGT increase in your situation, or anyone elses, is a leaner mix. The temps itself is not an engine prob but it may be an exhaust prob for you? Or it could be a heads up that your operating fuel mix is lean? I don't have a hard answer. happy trails

I wouldn't think it would be the exhaust, since this just started to happen today after the msd system was installed. Not once have i had a problem until now, so just trying to figure out why the exhaust is popping not just a little but popping a lot when letting gas off and/or down shifting... thanks
