possible purchase

Here's the deal, found a 85 carrera targa, red, black interior, 117K miles for 15K. I neog. to 12.5K, but car has no records. Dealer has agreed to repaint the metal that's faded and also dye the seats; never knew you could do that. He is also willing to allow me to take the car to do a PPI. Problem is there is no record of ownership of the car for the first 50K miles, which is mystery. I've already had two red cars and really don't want another, not that there is anything wrong with the color, I just want a change. But for the price and what he is willing to do, it really seems like a gift from God if the PPI checks out. Here are some pics and I welcome any feedback, negative or positive. thanks for your response.

Dont want to dampen your enthusiasm but the price you have negotiated to seems in the ballpark, but no steal given the history- lack of and miles.
Have you looked around? check out local PCA websites?
There is one for the DC area I will have a hunt for it! unless someone gets it before me!.
Good luck and definately do the PPI- do not assume that she ok just because he agress to it!. If any seller would not agree to it i would walk!
Good luck!
Ben

Do a CarFax on the car and check out what happened during the first 50k.

If you have the targa bar painted, to properly do it, requires replacing the targa seal.

I think I'm going to pass on this one. I think there is something else out there if I just wait. I live in the D.C. metro area. If anyone know anyone has a P-car for sale in the price range of 15K, email. I'd like to stay with the 3.2's, though if a good SC comes along, I might be interested. Also, I'm very new to this board and was wondering if anyone new any websites that would help me in my search, I would really appreciate it. thanks again

85 911

Billy, do you have more pics? I saw a similar at a dealership at Tysons. Red targa, 117,000miles. Said they took it in on trade. Let me know. Did you drive it? Thanks Bob

You got it correct. HBL in Tysons Corner. Car drives well as far as I can tell, but having never owned a 911, I can't say for certain if anything was wrong. they will allow a PPI if you want to check it out. Alan Jones was the guy I spoke with, maby he will offer you the same deal or even a better one. Let me know how it turns out. The reason why I'm not going to jump on it is the car has no records, and I'm not looking for any more red cars, having owned two already which I still have a red 944 in the garage now I'll soon be getting rid of. Good luck

I would not have them redye the seats. Do it yourself with good quality dye from leatherique. I bet they will do a poor job with shoe polish.

Also don't have them repaint the targa bar, they will probably mess it up by painting it glossy or just doing a poor job. Its easy to do, and will cost them 25 bucks in paint.

Id say you need to go a bit lower than 12.5 for it to be a good deal.
