How about a forum for FAQ's?
The forum could only allow posts from some moderators. The moderators could pic past posts which answer FAQ's. There could also be a thread in the technical forum with suggestions on questions that should be included.
I'm suggesting this because there are now so many posts here that searching has become more difficult and time consuming. And of course the same questions are still being asked.

I think this is a great idea.
Check this link out from a pdaphone forum I belong to... every forum has a faq stickied at the top that has everything in Q&A format: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50453

I think it’s a pointless elitist idea. Lots of people come here to get info and met and exchange ideas. Just because some people know everything and have heard and answered all their questions doesn’t mean they should move the rest of the world into the back room now.

Yeah...I agree, I like to see the same tired questions asked over and over. And I particularly like seeing the peeps who asked them the first time now answering them....... and reposting the pics..... and sometimes they even own the car they're answering about.....

Putting the info into a single area is not bad, just difficult to work because there isn't necessarily a perfect thread.

I seem to remember there was a discussion about this recently. I think it just kind of died. No consensus and of course everybody realized the work load involved and the technical difficulties.
As a novice I would appreciate it though.. ![]()

Have you noticed how this forum is now filled with mostly uniteresting "show me your lug nuts" threads? The search engine is partially to blame for that. Does Wayne shut down the BBS once all the true technical questions have been asked and answered?
I vote no. This forum was MUCH more interesting a few years ago when the questions were fresh and the archives didn't exist. It is also refreshing to see an old question asked and then answered by a new person who has a different spin on things. What we need is 75% of the current posts to go OT and clear out space for something with actual technical content.

We should put together a FAQ of "what to do and how to do it on your newly purchased 911" - that should automatically go out (or a link to it) everytime somebody signs up to enter the forum - it could go with the Email to confirm registration and keep out bots.
That would help new owners with some basic info and reduce some of the more repetitive posts.

It's not a bad idea, but no one has volunteered their time to do it, as it would be a considerable effort to put together, and would have to be added to / maintained on a regular basis. If anyone wants to volunteer to work on this, then let me know...

I'd never looked at the Tech Info Center, my bad. I didn't go thru any of the articles, but there's a lot of topics covered. Maybe a sticky at the top of the Tech Forum linked to it would prevent some common repeat questions.
If we were to have a Forum of archived common threads, you could allow people with new ideas post to the thread through a moderator.

Perhaps we need another forum for general 911 musings/chat/pics etc: The stuff that's not off-topic enough for the OT forum.
Keep the technical forum for technical stuff ,and the engine forum for engine stuff. Hey why not delete an unused regional forum and use that?
