Choices, choices....color change opinions??
Hello all....
Having been w/o a Porsche since last December, I am excited about the possibility/reality of buying back my former 80SC after a small "incident" with a light post. The car is currently getting the backdate "treatment" from the boyz at TRE and Kevin's shop. I have the opportunity to do a color change since the car will get a re-spray anyway. She is being backdated to a long-hood, so I'd like to consider a period-correct color. My first pick is Viper/Conda Green. Another candidate is Gulf Orange, which fascinates me...I love orange. Or, I can leave the car it's original color, Black Metallic. My wife hates all things orange, from flowers to paint, so that will be a sell...but hey, it's my car....right? Viper Green is just plain awesome on these cars. Black Metallic is a classy color and looks really nice in the sun. No matter the color, it will have a set of Carrera decals. What are your opinions? Thanks -B |
For no other reason than I just plain like it, I'd vote for Viper Green. When done correctly it's an awesome color.

Does not matter what color (though I would lean towards the original color) just get that backdated SC back and drive the shyt out of it!!!
You have got to Jones'n big time!!! ;) Hope all is well in CO with the family. |

Ok Kevin, I'll go thru the proper channels, but Viper Green it is! Than just looks (excuse the 80's reference) b!tch!n. What are you gonna do with the rockers? Remove them and fill the holes??
And yes, Dan, I am jonesing BIG TIME! Too bad track season is all but over here :( Thanks for the comments guys. -B |
Good choice!

I was thinking of repainting but was discouraged by the body shop. My current paint is decent but flaking off in certain spots and ahs the usual wear on the hood.
Is it realistic to assume a repaint will be as good a factory paint...and will the original galvanized primer be kept? |
bb, I assume the car is coming back to colorado; you will have to let me check it out when it gets back here :D

I have no doubt it will look fantastic. If the painter wants to go into more detail, he can, but his work is top notch. BTW, this car will be driven hard and not a concours winner or garage queen. Kobalt, yes, the car is coming to Colorado. We'll have to go tear up some roads locally :) |
Brad, I still think your original color looks great. I am thinking something along the lines of the attatched picture for your back dated SC with your current color and a shade of blue for the pin striping and slate grey for the main stripe. Period look with a race feel. Watcha think?

Dan!!! Stop it! You are killing me :) That looks HOT! But, my heart tells me green, I think I'd be disappointed if I did not do it. This project is on a very steep slope. Of course, the windshield will need to come out for paint, may as well put a new dash in.. Oh yeah, I think I should get the shox re-valved now so I do not screw up the suspension settings later... What? The car will be lower? Should I go with raised spindles and a decent bump steer kit?? How much are those RS tail lights?? I can only picture the evil smiles on the faces of the TRE guys :) I don't think the madness ever ends... All I know is that this will be one sweet ride when she's done. I hope Kevin can post some progress pics soon...

Brad, or anyone who wants to follow along, bookmark Automotive Innovations and Restoration and I'll try my best to keep you up to date.

Color change is a pain. Viper Green is getting popular. Why not Black with Viper green graphics? Would look amazing!
|
Kevin, the link on your site to the backdate project does not seem to be working...

I saw my first 911 at the age of 5, maybe 6. We were driving through Fort Collins, Colorado. It was bright green. From that day on, not only did I dream for a Porsche, but a bright green one. Nostalgia, I guess. Something special happened to me that day :) |
I'm a sucker for Orange,red & Grand Prix white.
With Viper Green and Speed yellow everyone will see your car.Any other colour they will look at it.Heres a pic of my 72 RS reP. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1126686913.jpg  |

Hey 'dreamin, what wheels are on your RS Rep? Nice! I don't quite understand your comment about 'seeing' vs 'looking' at different color cars. I don't need to draw anymore attention to myself for sure :) I hope the Viper intrigues people, though, I am sure it will make a few puke. Beautiful car, Jim...just classic Porsche in it's environment.
