Ignition Systems
Thanks Grady and Randy for the info.
Since I stated my posting activities here at Pelican, I have had some great responses to the questions, and alot of useful insight to the problems. One of my first posts looked at the MFI concerns with the car, and how the system got out of kilter. The exhaust gas low speed idle measures less than 3%, and the high speed rack is set at >6% exhaust gas. We know that the low rack is too lean and needs raising. If the butterflies were correctly set, the exhaust gas setting would be richer. The butterflies were set a slight amount open and the bleed screws are closed at the idle setting. The rods were all wrong (wrong guy doing the job 5 years ago), and the rods have all been reset to the correct lengths. We only need to reset the butterflies. The mechanic was Porsche trained and has done a great job so far. The car runs substantially better than it did before I brought it to him. He had the Bosch MFI manual in his possession, but my questions actually reflect his questions to me. If the pump needs re-calibrating, I know two places in the UK which do it, one is in London and the other is in Banbury (just an hour south of me). The multi spark discharge issue came as we were unsure if the Bosch CDI and transformer still worked. To the best of my knowledge, it seems to be working satisfactorily. It is hard to say how much better the multi spark discharge unit will improve the engine's performance in these low pressure ranges. Perhaps more than I can imagine, but that I think is for another day. Best Regards Dom
