Will 96 engine lid fit 87?
Will the engine lid, with the motorized spoiler from a 1996 fit a 1987 911?

No, the engine lid is shorter on 1996 (993).
You can use the engine lid from 964 C2/C4 from 1989-1994 with the motorized rear spoiler/wing. |

is this a comon modification that folks make? Ya gotta admit, that motorized wing is serious "bling bling"!

It is fairly common. Several here have done the conversion.
It also isn't all that bling if you compare it to a whale tail. Plus you can close the wing and it looks like a stock decklid.

But remember: it has to be from a 964 (1990-1994) to work. 993 and 996 decklids (1995-up) are not the same size.
