Help - A New K&N Question ???

My early 911 has Weber 40IDA3C carbs and I need to replace the air cleaners. If not K&N, then what should I use as replacement filters? The car has watershields and I need to know what I can replace the K&N's with? Specific help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Rich

I don't have a definitive answer for you, just a couple of 'hints' from possible other cars using the 3-bbl Webers. European readers/viewers may have a better idea or familiarity, as it is my understanding that Fiat/Ferrari Dinos used the same carb on the V6 Dino engine, as did the Apline-Renault A310 V6, so whatever type of air cleaner assembly they used might still be available, and possibly paper elements may have a common Fram or other replacement.

Yes I do. However you may not wish to go through the trouble.

Last time I researched, there are no off-the-shelf automotive filters, paper or otherwise, that fit the K&N sillouette. In my case, not wanting to go with K&Ns, I took some generic Amsoil foam air filters, cut them up height and lengthwise, and reglued the ends to the correct circumference. They fit around a metal screen support. Works fine so far.

MM was selling K&N-sized foam filters through ebay for awhile; not sure what happened since their site doesn't list them. They had several colors (yellow, red, blue).

I got this link from another thread today which contained these heavy equipment air filters made by "Stoddard" (not the Porsche guys).

I don't remember the exact K&N dimensions, but except for the height (5"), these look close to fiitting.

Let us know what you find out.
