7mm roll pin question
what are you people using to replace the roll pin in the Bilstein strut when you replace the shock? Porsche doesn't have a listing, only for the full strut assembly. Most of the hardware suppliers have plenty of 1/4" in stock in varying lenghts, but I have yet not been able to locate a source for the exact pin. thanks

Try out host or MSC Industrial supply. Here is the link to the on line items A MSC: http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/N2DRVSH

I believe i've seen these at the local hardware stores near me- Ace Hardware and Sears Hardware. In the nuts & bolts drawers of course. Not sure if metric were available though. A SAE close size would probably work in a pinch
I've never used MSC, but they look to have a good selection of pins. Stutz's link doesn't show pins, so you have to type "roll pin" into their search field. Doing so turns up a good selection. Also, you can always try the tried and true McMaster-Carr www.mcmaster.com Type "roll pin" in the search field again and you'll be able to select the exact size you're looking for.

I was told in no uncertain terms never re-use. McMaster-Carr & Grainger are both close, but no match. Also when you get into industrial suppliers, the terminology changes from 7mm to M7
Are people just re-using them with no problems? Never having actually done it, I don't know how much stress the pin is subjected to on the way out. I did the disassembly all the way down to the shock insert removal, then got stymied & put everything back together. Good learning experience, but nothing to show for it.

Call this place.
http://www.metricmcc.com They don't have 7mm in their catalog, but down at the bottom of the page http://www.metricmcc.com/catalog/Ch2/2-208.pdf they request you give them a call for the more uncommon sizes. That's about all I got........... ![]()

They are available from Bilstien, same as any extra new parts and pieces you need. They have been very helpful in the past.
