915 Upgrades?

This morning I send checks for Geof33 half finished 82sc backdated 73 RSR project and an Instant-G 3.6 V-Ram engine and kit. The car will be be used for open track events and on the street (road trips).

The car comes with a freshly rebuilt 73 915. With advice from Steve Timmons, I will sell this tranny and look for a 915 from a SC.

I don't know anything about these trannys (or trannys in general) and was wondering what I should think about as far as modifying one for my appliccation. I'm sure I'll want a lsd but don't know which one or what else - cooler, gate, etc.. What should I plan on spending for the parts and labor.

Thanks-
Craig Backer

Get the heavy duty bearing retainer from either PowerHaus or Wevo, the heavy duty side plate from PowerHaus, and if you don't score a factory cooling setup (which I've heard are fragile), drill and tap the case for an external cooler.

Before you sell the 73 box, I would put in a call to Hayden at Wevo and get his opinion on the best transaxle for your application.

Would you have a number or websight by chance?

Yea, WEVO makes a whole array of parts for the 915 transmissions, including very lightweight flywheels/clutch packs, machine work inside the case, oil cooling, etc.

Give Hayden a call.
