Edmund's Porsche Blog

I've been reading posts by various Edmund's editors about a '85 911, and its a great read. I especially like the discussion of the suspension (March 12, 2012). Check it out if you have some time to kill!

Wow, the June 03, 2011 entry by a photographer who never drove a Porsche is a great read.

I was "tank everett" on there trying to help the young-uns understand the 911's appeal. They found it was a tough car for LA driving but they never really improved the car to much. Ie, they never changed shifter bushings etc.

That was a very cool car (black spoiler delete M491 with sport seats), and they wound up selling for a very low price IIRC, due to a salvage title.

I drove that car! I actually made an offer on it last year. I think it had a salvaged title and some misaligned fenders. It looked good though. love the wide body with no wing

I think they got a good price for it after they deducted expenses compared to any of their other classics including the vaunted NSX. And look at the entry where it was on the lift. You can easily see the accident damage.

I offered them 14K and they turned me down. I know they posted it on ebay, but never hit their reserve..

I live in Savannah Ga and have a 1985 wide body Carrera that has a rod knock . I also have a car lift and machine shop at my home . I would like to get some help from a local person on doing an in house rebuild in exchange they will have access to my shop with all my tools for their projects in the future . John 912 233 2050

Wow, they can use your shop and tools to fix your car...911s don't have rod knock...ever. Check to see if head studs are loose by opening up the valve covers....

Rebuilds - $7500 to $12,000

Thanks for the tip , I was not trying to be cheap or get somebody to fix my car for free . I made a mistake buying a car online and cannot afford to pay for a rebuild by a shop for another year and I was offering the only thing I have for a little help ,mainly the valve timing. I was told by 2 shops that I have a rod knock but was also told by Todd Knighton of Promotive (Turbo's) it could be a loose flywheel or something else . The car has the original engine with only 80,000 miles and I have been told that 'it's just broken in ". I will check out your idea ,thanks so much ,if that fixes it I will be very happy . I have not even drove the car 1 mile since I bought it almost 2years ago.
