Brake rotor turning question

I am putting on rebuilt calipers later this week and was going to get the front rotors turned. I've heard it is difficult/impossible to turn the rear rotors. Does anyone know if there is anything tricky about rear rotors on a 85 911?

Can't recall if this is a problem, but the rear hubs might be integral with the rear rotors...and the hubs house the drum parking brakes. The configuration with a large hub might make "turning" a problem.

I think a more key question is do you really want to do this? Turning a rotor makes for a nice even surface but you're removing heat-sink "mass"...all the more that warping will occur even sooner than before ( if that was your original problem).

I just rebuilt my 930 calipers all the way around, and replaced the brake pads. Turning the rotors after refreshing the brakes is standard practice.
You should not exceed min. thickness as spelled out in your workshop manual.
Rear rotors need to be turned flat to the locating face within .004" (flatness spec for 87 turbo rotors)

Note - Check the work of whoever turns your rotors by setting up a dial indicator and checking the flatness runout after the rotor is mounted to your car.
Go ahead, ask me how I know...
