Idle question
I just got a 1988 911 3.2. After accelerating and taking my foot off the gas to come to a stop. The RPM’s drop to 700 or so, bounce to 1100 then slowly settle to idle at 850. Is this bounce normal, or should the RPM's stop at 1100 and settle to idle?
|
Could be a number of things
- idle adjustment off - idle position sensor not functioning correctly - idle stabilizer valve not functioning correctly - mixture off there are home checks for these with the exception of the mix adjustment todd 86 coupe |
So this is not normal, what should the RPM's do if the car is
running right? |

It should settle at 840 - 880 rpms without hunting.
Do a search on "idle hunting"...Tons of info, with as many possible causes and fixes. Vacuum leaks Temp head sensor o2 sensor MAF The list goes on and on. |
It is not hunting (at least don't think so?), it is more of a bounce (onece) and it dose settle
to idle. So when you take your foot off the gas to put in the clutch to come to a stop. the idle drops to (?) then settles to idle? |
