Targa Owners

Has anyone ever eliminated the rattling from the doors/window frames to their satisfaction? It seems to help rattling if I raise the window just about 1/2" out of the door but its pretty annoying over bad roads. Probably will be a winter project to strip out doors/windows and interior to reduce rattles.

Someone recently posted this picture of their solution to air noise from the Targa roof. It is simple, cheap and invisible when installed - if not exactly an elegant fix. Its just Fedex envelopes (the glossy kind) cut to fit into the latch recesses. Hope it helps some.

My -84 doesn't have too many rattles but there is considerable wind noise, which mainly originates from the driver's top corner. The targa top does sit a little higher, maybe 1/8", on that side. I figured this could be eliminated if the latches were closer to the edge.
I wish there was a way to take both the car and top to Dan in NJ to get all targa problems fixed once and for all.

Hi,

I adjusted my window height a couple of years ago and the rattling went away - came back recently, but the windows need an adjustment again. Guess I did not tighten everything down well enough last time. Till I take the door panels off again, I have to find the sweet spot...

JonT,

There was a thread recently about fixing the rattling windows. It was a year or so old, but recently resurfaced. Seemed to have good pointers for hunting down the rattle and fixing it.

Sorry I don't have the link

Yes,

Once you have taken the door panel off, raise the window about half way.

You will see the BOTTOM roller track. NOT the one attached to the window.

Locate the bolt (towards the back of the door) that holds that bottom track and roller. Loosen that bolt and push the track upwards so as to put a bit more tension on the roller.

This is where it gets to be a little trial and error.

If you adjust that track too high, the window will not seal against the top rubber strip attached to the Targa top or the roller will not roll freely in the track.

Adjust too low and you'll still have a window rattle.

Otherwise, it's pretty straight forward. DId mine 2 weeks ago....no issues.

Good Luck

In that pic that Dan in Pasadena posted above, that FedEx envelope repair job cures the squeaks. Mine never squeaks anymore thanks to fedex envelopes.

As far as rattles go, mine doesn't rattle unless I hit a really bad train crossing or big pot hole.
