steering wheel recovering

87 carrera and just had the seats reworked to original. The steering wheel looks awful. Any place that will rework to original?

Ever thought about just getting an aftermarket wheel? Lots to choose from and all of them look better than the stock wheel.

I do not recommend agla or the kit the agla kit. Ive got a carrera wheel on my SC and the kit from agla was awful. I would have been better off makeing a temploate from the original on my own that what I ended up with from them. Holes were punched at different spots etc..I made it fit finally with lots of trimming and punching new holes. I hope somone here can chime in with a good place to use. If I could do it again I would have just bought an A/M wheel like kurt said.
good luck

If you get one, don't make the mistake I did and get one without the "spokes." Feels great, but looks like crap because it didn't have the spokes.

I've also heard some stuff regarding AGLA. Don't know if it's valid, but not willing to take the chance with my baby.

I just got a call Friday from Tony at Autobahn Interiors in San Diego (autobahn@cox.net). He recently did a leather cover on a four spoke wheel for me and called to let me know that it had shipped. Should be arriving this week and I'll post some photos.

I considered the do-it-yourself approach, but sewing ain't my bag, baby - and I wanted something that looked like a factory job.

I purchased the kit from AGLA for the 4-spoke wheel and my girlfriend did the sewing. Lucky me!

The AGLA cover was barely okay. The leather quality was decent except that the color was too gray not black enough which looks out of place in the car. It was cut properly EXCEPT that the spoke portions were not long enough so the horn pad does not cover all the metal. All in all, I've bought another wheel as I'm displeased with the leather color and cut.

the problem with the re-cover it your self kits is that I don't know how you could get them to look anything like the origional, the string they suply looks like shoe string!-it seems like they all end up looking really cheap?-I bought an AGLA replacement boot for a 944 and thought the quality was good, but it took a long time to get the fit right because it was such a tight cut over the shift lever

I had Tony repair the seat in my BMW Z3 while he was at Auto's International. I saw Tony at the German Autofest in Ventura and would recommend contacting him at Autobahn Interiors in San Diego. One final comment. I did a repair job on my steering wheel (do a search) and it was Tony that gave me the correct thread and needle to do the job.

the agla kit I was displeased with was from our host. Apparently they sell the agla through pelican. You might want to call and ask if they have other options.

Doug.. there is a trick to getting the non spoke version to work that I have used.. Clean the uncovered spokes glue off as much as poss. and then use a plastic trim coat spray only on the spoke part in a semi flat black... That actually turned out much better than the agla kit. The spokes look good and then the leather is perfect on the machine cut wheelskins kit.

I recovered my steering wheel with the agla kit recently. A "baseball" style stich helps to cover the threads. It took some time and patience but in the end I am pleased with the results.

I've got a stock steering wheel out of my 1987 930 that I would sell if you're interested, it's black and in very nice condition (removed at about 25k miles). Pm me if you want pics, etc.
