It looks like a portion of a window regulator mechanism (it also looks somewhat "disconnected").
But, I bet I won't know the answer to your question. Jerry M '78 SC |

Very close Jerry, its in the door but its the pin connected to the door handle mechanism. This piece turns when you lock and unlock the car.
Problem i have is the key will only unlock the drivers door and not lock it. Someone will look at this photo and be able to say whats come adrift. Doesn't matter too much, i'm had an alarm fitted today with remote locking. |

At least on the older cars, there are two pins, each of which attaches to the end of the lock tumbler. On mine, I can't see how one would come loose but not the other (both are connected by the same screw) but I guess it's possible. Again, on the older cars, you do have to take off the door panel, take off the handle, figure out which positions you want the pins in, retighten, and put them back in. I would think about fixing even with a keyless entry so pieces don't fall into your door. Also, that screw (which may have come loose) holds the tumbler in the handle, so it could fall out if not properly tightened.
