RSR replica project update 5

Hello all,

Time for the next update. Car is now out of the body shop and WOW!! (even if I say so myself) it is just perfect, panels fit like they were done by the factory.

Time to get some sunshine on this baby so we can see what it looks like in natural light, out of the garage.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127835709.jpg

No doors yet, but maybe we should race it this way, an extremely lightweight race diet, might be a bit windy.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127835781.jpg

Just an idea we are toying with, which I thinks looks nicer than the standard black plastic trim. Final product would be powdercoated black. Any thoughts or feedback appreciated.

Here is a look at the front end with the oil cooler in place.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127836134.jpg

Doors have now been fitted.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127836205.jpg

Rear end starting to take shape, grills have now been fitted into the tail. We were lucky with the small grill, we had a damaged grill that we cut up to make so everything matches.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127836411.jpg

What a fantastic rear end, now complete tailights in place.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127836515.jpg

Shell now complete and awaiting reassembly. Final polishing will be done once everything is put back together, and then Jagermeister race graphics.

Well thats it for now, next update in about a week.

As usual comments good or bad always welcome.

Guys thanks for all the fantastic comments, really appreciate it.

In answer to some questions:

Car will be fully street legal and used for Porsche club events, auto-x and track days as well as concourse and Porsche parades. One hell of a weekend fun toy.

No worries about the weather here we just build them in the sunshine, nearly all year round.

Color was choosen to stick out and be unusual, very few orange cars or RSR replicas here in SA.

Jager graphics, Recaro spg's will just finish it off with that mean race look, also push button start, and wait till you see our final touches on the RUF wheels.

Thanks once again guys.

Fishcop 09-27-2005 03:20 PM

This is my dream car - can't wait to see how it progresses.

Also, I've got stacks of photos of the Jaegermeister car at the Le Mans classic - should you need any reference.

motley911 09-30-2005 02:29 AM

Awesome color and great post.
Have the rear quarter panels been installed to keep the car as a SWB or are you going to go to a LWB?
I have an rsr replica based on a similar vintage 1968 chassis and your post has caused me to consider an update.

Thanks,

Thomas Owen 09-30-2005 02:42 AM

Very nice, keep up the good work.

Johnny B 09-30-2005 02:46 AM

Hello,

Thanks for comments.

Car will stay SWB but using customised trailing arms made by my mechanic. Rear coil overs by Bilstien and Racers Group adjustable rear spring plates.

K9Torro 09-30-2005 04:56 AM

Are there a lot of cars in South Africa that are right hand drive, do you drive on the right side or the left side of the roads there ?

Todd SmileWavy

Johnny B 09-30-2005 07:21 AM

Heh Todd.

We drive on the left here, all standard cars are RHD and so are all the new Porsches here as we have a Porsche dealer here and they are only allowed to import RHD cars. A lot of the older Porsches are LHD and a RHD car is worth far more here than a LHD.

Sameer 09-30-2005 08:39 AM

Fantastic, looking good already

k9handler 09-30-2005 09:16 AM

Thanks for comments guys.

Tom, I have seen your project car on the board, unbelievable, the craftsmanship looks fantastic.

In answer to you question, we are running a 1994 964 3.6 motor, european spec, with RUF chip, PMO 50mm carbs, weltmeister solid engine and gearbox mounts, RSR pulley hub, 915 gearbox, with factory short shifter.

Hoping the chassis will weigh under 1000kg and that should make for a quick fun toy.

Sameer, did you post updates of your RUF project when you were building if so, please advise the link details i would love to see it.

Thanks once again guys

madprof 11-22-2005 03:59 AM

Hi Johnie, what a super car. I have just joined teh forum and I have a project under way similar to yours. Here is my question:

I have an excellent body of a 1969 long wheel base 912 and I would like to put a 3.0 or a 3.2 engine with a 915 tranny in.

I noticed that the engine mounts are different. Do I need to do anything to the chassis to install the six-cylinder engine mounts?

I can see on the back of the chassis legs two triangles (one on each side). Is it sufficient to drill there and install the new engine mounts, or do I have to re-enforce them to withstand the heavier engine weight.

Also, can the tranny be mounted without problems? the 912 tranny (901) has a relatively small mount bracket? How many brackets does a 915 gear box/diff require?

please advise?
regards
mad prof
