Idle Control Valve Troubleshooting

I have done may searches just need a quick answer. My car dose not stall but when I let my foot of the gas to come to a stop
the rpm’s drop to 500 bounce to 1100 then settle to 850. Last night it tried the jump wire method. As soon as the wires made contact
The rpm’s rose about 300 rpm’s I set the idle back to 850 with the idle adjustment 8mm. Revved the engine and the bounce was gone.
Removed the jump wires rpm’s dropped 300 and bounce was back. I have cleaned the ICV, but I may need a replacement WHAT DO
YOU THINK?

I'm guessing it can't hurt. They're not too expensive. I replaced mine a while back.

There is a resistance test you can do on them. I can't tell you the numbers (another pelican has my manual) but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Also when you cleaned it did you take it apart? If you did, did you get it oriented the way it was? If you didn't take it apart you may want to. This will ensure it is completely clean. Use isopropal alcohol.

A lot cheaper to get your idle speed and mixture set because that's what you'll end up doing after you waste the $180 and it still does the same. Rarely do these idle air control valves go bad.

Besides, I can tell yours works because it's regulating the idle at 850 but it's having difficulty getting there since your basic settings are out of wack.

Usually when that ICV goes bad your engine will begin to hunt radically, up and down, up and down, up and down etc.

When was the last time the O2 sensor was replaced?

The car got smoged two months ago, I don't think it has ever been replaced 50K on engine.

I can get my engine to do the same if I set my idle speed too high and there's nothing wrong with my ICV.

Any experienced mechanic could easily reset your idle, charge you $180 for an ISV that was never touched and send you off with a smile.

For that matter, why not bring it to me in Novato and for $180 (I won't even charge you labor) I can garantee your idle will be perfect.

Took the car in it, was running rich. Made ajust. still a bit
of a bounce but not so bad, I was told a small bounce is
normal? Now the car drops RPM's down to 600 bounces up
to 1000 (insteed of 1100) and settles 850.

Mine bounces with a/c on, doesn't when it's off. Its better with a Wong chip-one of the things the stock chip does is shut off fuel delivery above x rpm on closed throttle, which seems to contribute to the bounce. If the car doesn't stall, stop looking at the tach.

Ya, but it hard they put the tachometer smack dab in the middle. Don’t even get me started on the little orange shift light!!!!!!!!!!!

You can take the annoying gas consumption shift light out of commission (and even just keep the rev reminder light).
