Will 15 inch wheels fit on an '85 911?

Does anyone know if there any clearance issues by using 15X7 and 15X8 wheels on an '85 carrera?

As long as they are 7x15 w/+23.3mm(ET23.3) o/s and 8x15 w/ +10.6mm o/s(ET10.6) they will fit fine. They were either oem or optional on many versions of that chassis/body.

Bill,

Wow... Great information!

I'm planning an RS conversion on my '70 911 T using an '85 suspension. Does this change the info above... I apologize for not clarifying earlier. Thank you.

I can't speak for the entire suspension, but the 15x8s will not fit until your '70 is flared.

The suspension of either car will place the wheels in the same position relative to the inner panels, there is no issue there. But the rear flares of an '85 are needed to comfortably fit the +10.6 wheel. There are some who have squeezed +23.3mm 8s under the narrow rear fenders, but it is not a happy relationship.

Excellent... Thank you for the info.

The '70 will be flared to SC flares, that should give me enough clearance. My main concern was the clearance on the rotor and caliper and the body of the car itself.

Out of curiosity, if either of you were doing this conversion would you go with 15 or 16 inch wheels? I have a set of 16's but they are 16X6 and 16X7. So I would need to find two 16X8's to replace the 16X6's. To be correct on the RS, I would need 15 inch wheels.

Yes, you would - to be correct.

Have you seen this in classifieds? 15x8s for sale.

Fuchs for sale - 15" and 16"

Actually - to be absolutely correct, 15x6s and 15x7s were used on the early RS. It wasn't until the last year before the SC that Carreras were given 15x7s and 15x8s.

Anything that was called an RS Carrera after '73, had larger flares on all four corners, and used 15x9s front and 15x11s (I think) in the rear.

I promise, last question...

Any idea if they are 15s or 16s?

I like the fitting these have overall, if I had to guess, I think they are 15s.

The price of 15s has gone insane.....you used to be able to get them for what a steel wheel was selling for.
