I apply the flame from a Mapp gas torch to the junction between the stud and the case to break the loctite free. About a minute of that and the studs come out without a fuss.

Baum Tool has an inexpensive one that I prefer to the chunky SnapOn one. The Baum tool # is
28K-10 "STUD PULLER-SQUEEZE TYPE-10mm"

propane won't get it hot enough to melt the loctite...

MAPP gas or oxy-acet.

I love Oxy-act....you will hear the loctite sizzle almost, and smoke, then a it's smooth as butter. If you let it cool it'll bit again, so you have to get the studs off right away. Once the loctite melts, a couple of nuts doubled with medium force is all you need.

All done now.... but we were out of gas ... you can see the oxy-acet setup in the second picture...

the upper steels are in great shape... the lowers were dilivar(forget the spelling) and will be replaced with steel.

I just did the same thing yesterday on my 80SC, replaced all 12 lowers. Used MAPP gas which took a good 5 minutes of heating each stud down the inside of the block along the line of the stud. Even then I don't think I fully liquefied the Loctite. Loctite must have been on sale in Germany on the day they assembled my motor as those buggers were in there! I was amazed to find the entire block was very warm to the touch once the last one was out! Don't forget to run a tap to remove the remnants.

next time use the oxy/acet in the cylinder bore adjacent to the stud threads, to melt the loctite. no swearing, and you're done in 20 minutes.
