As has been well documented here, just becasue Richard Sloan has it on his website does not mean he actually has the car nor did he ever have it. Do a search on his name.

You would have to be an absolute fool to consider paying even 1/2 that for one of those, not to mention an ugly grey one with ugly grey/off white interior, and the fun reducing comfort package!!!!-likely the least desirable possible combination of a once great car...

anyone catch the excellence article on these about a year back? - they compared them to 996 GT-2/turbos and basically decided that the new cars are much better, for much less $$

Petrol,
from the way talk about it being such a slug and ugly gray as well as the comfort package slowing it down I'd say you either own a sport version in the ever so rare Red or Silver.. or you have never driven one... which is it?
Just to touch on the topic of the 996GT2 and the 959 being compared.. you DO realize that the 959 was developed in the early 80's and sold in 1988! the GT2 is one of Porsche top offerings CURRENT TIME! OF COURSE IT IS GOING TO BE A over all BETTER CAR! it DAMN WELL BETTER BE!
I think you have NO concept of what you are talking about.. but thanks for sharing anyway... that's the great thing about the USA and the Pelican forums.. we are able to hear it all.

Um... it's about the history and how rare the vehicle is... not the performance. Someday, maybe 50 years from now, that car will be worth $1M if taken care of. It is rare, and an important part of Porsche history.

It is.. a friendly forum.. I am not looking to throw punches or shoot anyone..
just it seemed like a pretty heavy slam on a car that was SO FAR ahead of it's time it's not funny...and that even by today standards is a GREAT car.. I was simply wanting to see where the basis for his comment came from... is all I was doing..
maybe we can have some good conversation on the 959.. ruffled feathers are a good thing it's drives the conversation forward.
trust me I am not an aggresive forum person..

Yes, that asking price is a bit high for the 959 right now...

Yes but remember you are paying for the name " Richard Sloan" that alone adds $50k to $100k to the prices

HA, that's too funny. Don't think I'd ever buy from a place that doesn't know what the hell a 356 is.

OH COME ON Schuey !!!

Maybe Erik did pull a Terry Tate Office Linebacker and level the guy from the blindside, but isn't that also the joy of this forum !!!

You gotta admit:

The comment --"You would have to be an absolute fool to consider paying even 1/2 that for one of those"

If someone was selling a 959 for $187,500 we'd ALL call HIM a complete IDIOT unless he needed the money by 4:00pm tonight to pay ransom for one of his kids !!! A 959 (especially in good order) for that kind of money wouldn't last 15 minutes on the "real" market !!!

There was a shop in Santa Cruz that imported close to 20 959s and were modifying them for performance and CA emissions. I got a chance to see about 15 959s all in one enclosure!

The price wasn't cheap - over half a million IIRC.

Holberts in Warrington PA also had a fleet of them which all had to eventually get sent back to Germany.

In the day, wasn't there only a handful of 959s that were blessed by the US Govt and allowed to stay in the country?

His other cars prices are on crack. Not sure of the value of that 959 though.

Sloan is a real character, I have had several occasions in the past to speak with him on cars and then to meet him a few times.

Originally, many years ago when I was looking for my first 911 I responded to one of his ads in Hemmings. He talked my ear off and at that time seemed like a decent guy. Of course his prices and his touch of arrogance turned me off.

For the heck of it I had phoned him on a few other cars over the years after seeing inventory on his website. Often he does not have the cars and in some cases never did.

I met him at Hershey once where he was selling a chopped SC targa that was made into a wide body cab. His price again was in the ozone layer yet people made him legit offers right there at the coral. He and his buddies went out of their way to belittle people who offered him less then his asking price and they made sure anyone near by heard this happen.

These are only MY experiences with this guy. Perhaps others have faired better in dealing and talking to him. I for one have stopped wasting my time with a seller like this.
