Powdercoating three piece wheels
I just had some three piece wheels blasted and I'm taking them to the powdercoater tomorrow. I'm wondering how much of the wheels I should ask him to powdercoat.
Should I keep the areas of the wheel that are touching when they get bolted together (insides of the two halves and the back of the center) raw so that the surfaces are true? Or won't it matter if the surfaces that touch are powdercaoted? In other words, can the powdercoat layers vary enough in thickness to make the wheel "untrue" when it's all bolted together again? Also, when I apply the silicone to the wheel halves to seal it up, would that be better if applied to bare aluminum, or a layer of powdercoat? I have a feeling this all sounds like some dumb questions, but I figured I should ask them anyway.

Keep all mating surfaces free of powdercoat.
