I would let it go. Honestly, this car seemed overpriced to me anyways. The color is odd, which would have really hurt resale, and there's nothing very special about a 100K mile Carrera with a white interior...

There have been many excellent posts about the dangers of buying online - I fell victim too to an Audi (GASP) which was not accurately represented, which was located 1500 miles and a plane ticket away. It was a painful lesson about believing someone who sounds earnest, honest, and honorable. This was after 6 long phone calls and several e-mails. (He also 'forgot' to tell me the hood had been keyed across the entire nose.)

Speaking of honor, I read something last weekend about honor and foregiveness by a religous figure. He said foregiveness is only warranted if four things happen: 1) the person sincerely appologizes, 2) the person compensates you for the losses you incurred because of their actions 3) they take accountability for their actions, 4) and change their ways to never repeat the same or similar transgressions. To error is human, but to foregive is... requiring some serious work on the part of the transgressor. Fools forgive, realists expect change. This doesn't mean to dwell on your justifiable anger - but move on as fast as you can and put this behind you, 'cause there are many more excellent cars out owned by good people. Good luck.

Dang,

I kinda thought $19,000 for an 88 in great shape was a decent price.....

You should really try to look at this in the most positive light Cam. Yeah it sucked, but it really was a relatively inexpensive spanking. Yes-I speak from experience. I have done the exact same thing. I've bought so many cars that one is bound to come across unethical people. I've had the price change (that takes balls!), but the most common thing is the car is rarely as desribed. I drove to Minneapolis (6 hrs each way in a one way rental) to see a car that was badly repainted and rusted underneath, unlike his description of pristine, original paint. No-I'm not saying you shouldn't complain or be upset, but use it as a learning experience and believe that it was for the best. There are worse things-like getting the car and finding out it was really a pos-been there!. If Wayne thinks that was a high price, he's probably right. That's good news because then you'll probably find a better one for the same or less. The Porsche gods spared you on this one I say.

Keep hunting, be careful, and good luck!

Cam I feel for you... but I agree with Wayne. I paid $17k for a nice 88 Carrera with 120k miles on the clock... Granted it was only Guards Red but...

I too bought the car long distance... through Autotrader. My experience was great though. I wired some deposit to the seller and ask him to meet me in Baton Rouge (he was from Houston) with the car. I flew one way from Charlotte, looked at the car, took it for a spin and drove home...
The seller had been very honest and the car was exactly as advertized...
Don't give up.. there are nice people out there... and you will find your 911!

It could be worse - much worse- you could have bought a low mileage car in "excellent" condition from out of state for top dollar and soon thereafter have 2 broken headstuds requiring you to spend another $5,500.....not that anyone would be dumb enough to do that...
