Please HELP!!

I have a 1985 911. When I drive it, the stering wheel shakes left to right vigorously. What could be the problem (bushings)?

Is there play in the steering column when the car isn't moving? If so, the nylon bushing in the column may have disintergrated. Pelican sells a replacement that's very easy to install.

Thanks for the info. It does not seem to have a lot of play, but I will double check. Are their any other suggestions?

I would check for: damage to the tire (broken belts, etc.), damaged rim, lost wheel weights, loose tie-rod end, loose wheel nuts.
