Just thought you guys would like to see the beast. I am currently chemically stripping it to metal and priming. Once I get the big areas done, I will remove windows and the doors and fenders and finish stripping (paint and parts!) and priming. The spots you see on the passenger side door is where I peeled the existing paint off with a razor blade. It was that ratty...
I still need to finish straightening the cowl below the windshield then weld the holes up. I originally planned to hammer weld these, but I may just MIG them. Still unsure, I am thinking alot about how to approach it in the best fashion. Possibly even a really clean brazing job, but the MIG seems least likely to cause any problems underneath. I think keeping warpage to a minimum will be slightly tricky in all cases in this area. Since this is a street car, and hot a racer, I am retaining the factory bumpers. I have settled on this front spoiler however. http://www.rennspd.com/P_Detail.asp?PID=573 I am still searching for replacement quarter extensions for the rear. One had been modified for a dual outlet muffler and then very poorly unmodified, the other weighs about four pounds too much, presumably from a repair due to a blown out tire as I found telltale signs in the wheel well opening. I made a small hardwood dolly and hammered the lip back into shape using traditional on and off dolly technique. I think a very light amount of filler will be required (maybe a 32nd of an inch just to smooth out the hammer marks) , but nothing like the 1/4" + that was on there. I don't think the previous painter owned a hammer or pliers.... which maybe is for the best. Has anyone ever done anything with the rear reflector area? Are filler panels available to get rid of the reflector? Atleast until I can find a good used one or repop units become cheaper. I was thinking a smooth body color filler panel with 914 P-O-R-S-C-H-E lettering. Would probably be somewhat tacky though. I could backdate the rear bumper but people driving and talking on cellphones scare me. I really like the look of the older tail. Any ideas? Anyone have a decent ducktail decklid collecting dust? Aftermarket fiberglass is fine... Also, anyone ripping off a factory 76 electric mirror? I apologise for the photo quality, I took them with my Treo. Great update! These days it's hard to get people interested in running/driving/happy '75-'77 cars let alone full blown projects.
I'm impressed as is the whole middle-year nation I suspect. ![]()

well, It was a cheap starter porsche, even at this point after patching together a 2.7 w/ alusils (it doesnt leak or use oil and runs well!), resealing the trans, new braided brake hoses, clutch, (etc. you know usual 100k engine drop stuff) and buying all new body rubber I am under 8 grand into it. Plus working on them are half the fun. Someone has to save the midyears anyway, we can't let the SCWDP succeed! :-P

Kudos to Rennspeed! My front valance arrived today in excellent shape! The product looks very nice and was VERY well packaged!
Pics forthcoming! I also changed my mind and went with the Ruf style front valance.
