Does anywone make a modified shift-lever?
One that would move the shift lever over to the right an inch (away from knee) and perhaps extend it an inch or two? I think this would be a popular item.

Check out WEVO. Pelican carries their products.
You CAN adjust the shifter a bit away from you by moving the coupler/shift rod. It isn't much but it may be enough to accomplish what you need. I modified my shift lever to move the shift lever closer to me. It's not pretty but I like it.

To add just a little bit of effective length to the shift lever, use a shift knob that has a tall stance (e.g. Momo Super Anatomic or equivalent). Instead of inserting the lever fully to the hilt, you can fix the knob further up the lever end and gain about an inch or so of overall length.
Something to consider with longer-than-stock levers: If you have a short shift kit installed, a longer shift lever will negate the throw reduction somewhat. Along with that, the increased leverage will make it easier to shift. However, if quicker shifting is the result, this may place unnecessary wear on the synchros since the pivoted bottom end of the lever hasn't changed. Something to consider when rotating the shift coupler relative to the shift shaft: On a factory shift housing (915-type), 5th and reverse use a mechancal "gate" (two tabs on the top carrier plate) that help define those shift positions. Rotating the shift coupler too far to accomodate your seating position may take the lever out of range and cause shifting difficulties. Hope this helps, Sherwood |
